T.I.P.S.

  • Lightbulb Students will use their prior experiences related to number lines to name the number that corresponds to a specific point on the number line. Students will use the traditional number line with the tick marks already determined and placed on the number line. Students may see points on the number line labeled and missing as well as missing numbers along the bottom part of the number line. Thermometers are great examples of number lines students may encounter.

Example

  • Our school has sold 198 tickets to the school play. My class will turn in 12 more tickets today. Using a number line, what is the total number of tickets that have been sold?
