T.I.P.S.

The student must be able to use concrete objects, such as ten-frames, rekenreks, base-ten blocks, bundled sticks, place value disk, or the open number line, and sketch pictures of the objects to represent composing or putting together, and decomposing, breaking apart of numbers, up to 120. They must use various combinations of hundreds, tens, and ones and must be able to explain their sums using multiple visual models.

1.2 Number and operations. The student applies mathematical process standards to represent and compare whole numbers, the relative position and magnitude of whole numbers, and relationships within the numeration system related to place value. The student is expected to:

(B) use concrete and pictorial models to compose and decompose numbers up to 120 in more than one way as so many hundreds, so many tens, and so many ones
