T.I.P.S.

  • Lightbulb Students must be able to list simple skills required for a job, work performed to complete a task, usually for money. Skills required for jobs may include education or knowledge skills and physical skills to complete a job. The skills a nurse may need to complete their job may include the ability to read charts and reports, measure medicine, recognize symptoms, communicate to patients and families, etc. Physical skills may be required of jobs such as a construction worker needing to carry heavy supplies, work with heavy machinery, drive, measure materials, etc.

Example

  • Read the following scenario aloud.
    • Rita’s mother is a nurse. She uses math to read charts and measure medicine every day. 
    • Rita’s dad is a policeman. He uses math to investigate accidents and crime scenes, and to know the right fees for speeding tickets. 
    • Rita uses math in her job, too. Rita’s job is to feed the family dog, Ruff. 

    What skills does Rita need to do her job of feeding her dog, Ruff?
