T.I.P.S.

  • Lightbulb With this standard, students must be able to use counting strategies to build or draw an additional set of objects or drawings up to 20 that is greater than, less than, and equal to the first set of objects. If given a set of 14 lima beans, a student should be able to create a pictorial model (drawing) or another set of objects that represents one more, one less, or an equal quantity to the 14 lima beans.

Example

  • Look at the picture below and use it to provide an answer for the following statements.

    12 beach balls

    a) Write the number and draw a picture of beach balls that has more beach balls than the number of beach balls shown above.
    b) Write the number and draw a picture of beach balls that has fewer beach balls than the number of beach balls shown above.

TEKS

  • K.2 Number and operations. The student applies mathematical process standards to understand how to represent and compare whole numbers, the relative position and magnitude of whole numbers, and relationships within the numeration system. The student is expected to:

    (E) generate a set using concrete and pictorial models that represents a number that is more than, less than, and equal to a given number up to 20
